sorry for all these bigass tags..... i have writing too much disease

[ for some reason, she has the vague sense that this has happened before, but she has no time to linger on that strange bit of deja vu - it's a relief not to land in a graceless pile on the floor, even if Shadow's not exactly the gentlest. For a moment, she's feeling intensely gratified (see, this is why she didn't leave - he has her back, so she should have his!); then, surprisingly, there is a half-second to linger, with Shadow looking at her wing, and her staring back at him, still half-bewildered he bothered to save her and wholly convinced his mind truly is elsewhere.

All of this in barely a breath, and then he's chucking her into a heap of scrap while he gets blasted by a laser. That's about what she expected. Annoyingly, she is worried about him - Rouge has come to accept that yes, she cares, but it still feels like weakness - but forces herself to put some faith in that supernatural healing factor of his, no matter how bad that looked. The fretting can come later. It would be worse if he got himself shot and then she got incinerated anyway. She pulls herself up out of the pile of old blueprints and loose screws as fast as she can manage, tests her injured right wing - ouch, okay, no flying on that now - and then tries her best to come up with a plan on the spot.

Right. Motion-tracking. And the machine is rusty and barely-working. In the brief moment while the guns are still tracked on Shadow, she grabs some piece of junk from the garbage she'd fallen into (an oversized lugnut, maybe?), slips behind some more crates, hopefully out of sight, and tips her head up towards the ceiling. It's dark in the room; fortunately, she's a bat, and all the noise has given her a pretty good idea of its layout, including ceiling fixtures. All she has to do is get in the right place. If she was anything less than a consummate professional, she's sure her hands would be shaking as she lines up this shot. But she's Rouge the Bat! Perfection is to be expected! So she'll do it perfectly...!

In all honesty, her trajectory's a little off when she kicks the lugnut straight up into the air up to the ceiling - it's too far to the left. Fortunately, it doesn't matter. The motion-tracking guns all immediately lock onto the moving target, firing their lasers at once to destroy it, and the resulting blast is close enough to a sprinkler head to destroy that, as well. Instantly, the sprinkler system kicks on, drizzling the entire room in slightly-stinky water - including the turret fixture, which begins making some very unhappy mechanical noises before the entire thing goes limp, twitching slightly.

Safe, for now, if somewhat soggy and burned simultaneously. Rouge huffs in distaste briefly before her mind returns to the more pressing issue: her hurt hedgehog. Favoring her injured wing, she immediately gets up and heads towards the wall he got shot into, heels clicking loudly against the floor. ]

Shadow!
