[ He'd had faith in the Phantom thieves - in Futaba, and especially in Akira - and he'd believed with full confidence in their ability to pull this ridiculous heist off. If he didn't, then the others might falter, too, and if that happened, then Akira might really die. Even if Morgana isn't the leader, he knows that the others look to him for advice when it comes to the Metaverse. So he has to be certain that it will work.
But even if he'd been confident, it was still risky as hell. They'd all been terrified waiting to hear what would actually become of their fearless (seriously fearless) leader. When they learned - when he finally came stumbling home - Morgana got to feel relief and horror simultaneously. Yes, he was alive - but he'd never looked so awful before. He'd seen Akira beaten and burned and knocked around by Shadows plenty of times; somehow, though, the brutal results of their fellow humans' handiwork on him in the real world were much worse. And in the real world, there was next to nothing he could do. Admitting it is painful... but he's just a cat.
And all a cat can offer is comfort. So that's what Morgana has been doing as best he can - being comforting. He hasn't left Akira's side since he came back, despite Takemi advising that maybe they should keep the cat away from him (she doesn't know that he knows better.) He's been barely conscious the entire time, if not straight up unconscious, so maybe he's not doing anything at all. Nonetheless, Morgana stays there, laying on the bed, drifting in and out of sleep, himself, in between watching him. Making sure he's still breathing.
He smells like blood and chemicals to Morgana's finely-tuned nose. Adults really are terrible. How could they do this to him...?
Akira's groan is what rouses Morgana from his catnap, resting beside him on the pillow - not quite close enough to touch him, for fear of irritating one of his many injuries, but enough for his presence to be felt. Is he actually awake? Cautiously, Morgana tilts his head at him, ears perking up. ]
