[ it's actually comforting to hear him make jokes like that, though; it's like confirmation that the Akira they know and love is really back. Morgana is sure he's hiding a lot of his pain right now - that's just how he is - but it seems like the ordeal didn't break him completely. ]

[jokered]

[he's definitely trying to hide as much of that pain as he can, so he worries morgana and the others as much.

he's doing his best, though.

akira's not the sort to let things break him, after all. they may have went for the jugular, drugging him and beating him—but he stuck to his guns. even when his memories were hazy, even when it felt like a struggle to remember the details, never for a moment did he consider selling anyone out or giving in. he's defiant, even while cooperating.

so there's no doubt he'll be fine. he'll pick himself up and be the leader they need to finish this job.

he just needs to rest and recover from his injuries first. and after a moment, he draws his hand back from morgana's head, using it to rub his other wrist—they're bruised and marked from where the handcuffs were, and he can feel the soreness now that plenty of time has passed.]

I didn't know it was a competition. [he replies wryly, plenty content to carry on the conversation like this instead of focusing on the worst.] If anything, she'd be my senpai.

[ he imagines dwelling on the bad parts wouldn't be very conducive to Akira's healing right now - especially considering how much he himself doesn't seem to want to dwell on it. Morgana might be a nag, but he sure as hell isn't going to make him keep focusing on the pain, both mental and physical. Even if he's worried. Still.

Were he better at being sincere with his feelings, he'd probably be able to find a middle ground there somewhere. Alas. He feels the loss of Akira's hand a bit more keenly than expected, and he lifts his head up to look at him when he does. It's not like he can ask him to keep doing it, right? - Especially not when he's like this! Hell no. ]

Too bad you'd still be in her shadow. Just stick to making curry and coffee.

he'd probably go back to petting morgana if he didn't think it would cause a fuss, but he's mostly trying to get that sore feeling to fade. those cuffs were definitely way too tight, especially with the tumbling that happened while he was essentially being brutalized.

[ Morgana laughs through his nose, a little subdued. It's hard not to notice the way Akira is rubbing his wrists, though, and he immediately feels a little bit guilty for trying to be funny and especially for wanting him to keep petting him. His blue eyes drift to the boy's hands, and his ears droop a little bit. ]

... Do they still hurt a lot? I can bring you some ice.

[ it may be a bit of a feat for a cat, but he'd manage it for Akira. ]

[jokered]

They're just a little sore. [a lot sore.] Ice can wait til later.

[not that it wouldn't be good to ice it. but honestly?] Just hanging out like this is fine. I can ice it after we talk to everyone else.

[just hang with him here for a while, cat-bro. he could use the company.]

[ He gets the feeling that Akira's downplaying his suffering. Again. But he also gets the feeling he's fighting a losing battle, so he just sighs, resting his chin on Akira's chest once more. ]

You're really stubborn, you know? [ just gotta let him know that. ] Well, whatever.

[ If he wants to hang, Morgana will hang. He certainly doesn't want to keep talking about what happened to Akira -- but it's hard not to, considering how it's been occupying all of their minds lately. ]

I'm sure that doctor will ice them later even if you don't want her to. [ a pause. ] You'll get to take some time off from school, anyway. I wonder what we should do...

[he'll accept being called stubborn. it's not like it's really untrue, after all. he tries to downplay things a lot, but he's still definitely very stubborn about some things.

even though it often mean worrying people more than necessary in his attempt to deflect that sort of thing.

sorry, morgana. your human-bro is kind of a huge dummy sometimes. but at least morgana changes the subject so expertly that akira can roll with it and get off these harsh topics pretty swiftly. he'll drop a hand back to morgana's head, rest it there—he deems it a lot less effort and energy wasted to do something like that instead.]

We have a lot to do. And our work is still cut out for us to make preparations. [can't stop won't stop.]

Akira! Quit it! You need time to heal up. If you hurt yourself worse running around trying to be a hero, that'll be bad for all of us.

[ the cat's big blue eyes are narrowed into slits as he stares at Akira from beneath his palm - not friendly slits, as a normal cat might do, either. There's a limit to how much stubbornness he'll accept, here! ]

I meant what we should do while you're resting.

I don't think buying supplies and working on our plans would be that taxing.

...I think I still have some DVDs we didn't watch yet, though. [he groans a little, though not from the pain of his injuries.

this one is solely for knowing he's going to have to pay late fees on those. whoops.]

[ YOU LITERALLY ALMOST DIED MY DUDE. Morgana's not a doctor, but he knows that being drugged and kicked around by a bunch of cops isn't something you can just walk off. (He may also be a bit of a mother hen - no one tell him.)

the mention of the DVDs makes Morgana's eyes go wide, even as he leans into Akira's palm. ]

The DVDs!! I totally forgot...

[ ... not that he could return them for Akira, but. ]

Maybe they'll waive my late fees if we tell them I was dead.

[because, of course, akira would make that joke. they both already know the late fees are coming, so he might as well make the best of it, right?

[ okay, that one is a little funny. He laughs through his nose a little.

It actually is a bit of a problem, though. ]

[ LISTEN IT SOUNDED LIKE A GOOD IDEA IN HIS HEAD. he makes a flustered squawking noise. ]

T-that's...! Well -- if you don't want to be a real thief, you'd better work really hard to pay them back! Once you feel better, obviously!

[ this totally isn't his problem! he refuses to feel bad about it!! totally. ]

[well, if nothing else... akira's still pretty amused by it. with what little energy he has to spare, he chuckles gently.]

I will. I think we've got some things from the Palace we can still sell. [since it wasn't like he had time with that whole getting arrested business.]

[ it's nice to hear him laughing. ]

Good! You have to be responsible. [ morgana, you're the one who suggested just not giving them back like 10 seconds ago. ] ... But you can't do that right away, so I guess we might as well watch them.

[ the idea of cozying up in Akira's room together for a while and just watching dumb movies together sounds... nice, actually. Especially after all the stress he's just been through. Also, Akira may notice a slight vibration coming from Morgana's throat... ]

[ah... he's purring.

akira won't call him out on that, of course. but it's nice—amid all this trouble, it's nice to think of the little things that will keep morgana's spirits up.]

We'll have some free time to. I don't think I'll be able to get to the rental shop for a few days more.

[piling up those late fees even more!!]

late fees are the least of their worries right now, but it's nice to think about something dumb and small like them. He's starting to feel a little more relaxed as the two of them sink into their usual routine. There's no doubt Akira's been bruised and battered to hell and back, and that's he gone through way more crap than anyone his age should have to, but... he's still Akira, and he's safe now. ]

Hey. I'm going to tell you something important, so you better listen, okay?

[jokered]

[he'll be fine with a lot of rest. and maybe a trip to the metaverse once he can get to his feet; casting a heavy heal spell or two should at least mitigate some of the damage and promote a quicker recovery.

but one thing at a time, considering he's still got a few holes in his memories.

... Let's not do something like that again. I was actually really w- ... I was scared, [ he self-corrects halfway through his sentence, though he glances the other way. It's rare for him to be open about any vulnerabilities; he's probably embarrassed. ] ... If something happened to you, I don't know what I'd do.

[ that's the truth, even if saying it is like pulling a tooth for Morgana - painful, but he feels better with it out there. It was important to communicate his feelings sometimes, right? Of course, he immediately tries to cover it up. ]

T-That's all! Don't make me worry again, okay?! I'll get really mad!

[jokered]

[he knows.

akira knows all too well that morgana being so sincere is difficult for him, and therefore also very rare. it's not something akira intends to take for granted.

so he makes a quiet gesture of his own, scritching gently behind one of morgana's ears.]

No more of that. We succeeded in the end, right? It just means we have to get to the end of this mystery and take care of the one that Akechi's answering to.

[since he's sure that's the person responsible for things getting this out of hand, too.]
