[ That's certainly a word that's never been used to describe them, at least they don't think so. Sure, some surprising events have happened to them, but that's different. They turn their hand against his chest so they can press an index finger against it. ]
You're probably only saying that because gems were surprising for you to be around. Right?
[ Like usual, they take the implication on it's face, not thinking about anything else about themself that might be surprising or unusual or interesting in a way that would keep him from ever being bored. Gems are odd and surprising from the human perspective; changing their body doesn't change that they still think like a gem, and act like one too. ]
[ is there a way he could tell them that all of this has been surprising to him? The sheer chance of their meeting, the fact that they swept him off his feet by accident, the idea that he did the same to them, that they gave up everything just to be with him, that they'd cut their life short for the ability to spend the rest of it at his side... Maybe he'd be revealing too much if he told them he never imagined things would work out so smoothly. Even the simple touch of their finger against his skin is a little unexpected when he's still getting used to their human form (and their slowly-growing affinity for affection.) ]
My dear, would I lie to you? [ His eyes crinkle as his smile becomes a little more secretive, and he pokes them back, touching the tip of their nose where his lips had been a moment earlier. ] ... No, I'll never get used to it. Never. That's a promise.
[ he's a little sleepy, but the heavy haze of dreams only makes him feel more confident. ]
[ Despite the playfulness of his actions, which might normally get a rise out of them, or at least prompt them to retaliate, they only lay there, looking at him seriously. They blink, slowly, smoothing out their hand to lie flat against his chest instead. ]
Then, I won't either.
[ It's casual, aloof like they've always been, but with the underlying hint of a promise. Really, they're too pleased, too, with the way things turned out. They're feeling as lucky and surprised as he does; lucky that they've been spared from an endless life of strife and pain for the one they have now, surprised that they'd managed to secure it at all. Their lips quirk into a smile, something smaller than before, but easier and less shy. ]
I know I won't change.
[ They might not have been used to the physical effect, unsure of whether they'd ever grow accustomed to it, but they at least know their feelings will always be steadfast. It's with a sigh that they reach out to take his hand in theirs, pulling it away from their face so they can lace their fingers together - their other hand moves to push themself halfway up to look down at him, handsome and lovely as ever. Sure, the two of them do need to get up. But there's something nice about seeing him in the morning like this, sort of sleepy, and before anyone else gets to. So, they stay there, in the midst of making the motions to rise, but too at ease to have the heart to end it by going the full way. ]
