ACTIVE CHARACTERS:
--> FULL MUSELIST
THREE MONTHS LATER i'm so sorry cal i love you
That doesn't mean that he doesn't remember the one that he left behind every time he looks at that strange futuristic music box he brought back with him from Chroma. It's not the first time that Lupin's let someone close to him die, and he's sure it won't be the last, either -- but it stings all the same. He broke his promise. He should have been able to change Minato's fate. As things stand, all he can do is remember his friend, and pray that when he's born in this world, his destiny plays out differently.
Or so he thought.
He barely sees and recognizes Minato before he realizes he's in trouble standing in the middle of the road like that; luckily, Lupin's reflexes are faster than his brain, and they'll be damned if they aren't saving Minato this time. It's a somewhat less-than-graceful rescue for the daring gentleman thief - he essentially just grabs Minato by the collar and yanks him backwards into the sidewalk as a loud, steam-puffing automobile zips by where he was - but the important part is that neither of them are pancakes on the road, and Minato is here and alive? ]
-- You haven't changed a whit, have you? [ is all he can think to say as he stumbles back, feeling a little out of breath despite how little he's actually done. ]
IT'S FINE SIBBU i am happy to receive your tags no matter when they come!!
Then he's yanked out of the way.
Minato makes a kind of gargling noise as he's yanked by the collar, which is an absolutely unimpressive noise to make when you're first mysteriously brought back to life, but you know what? It's fine... he's still alive, and he's not squashed, and his mysterious benefactor is--]
... Lupin?
[It's whispered... slowly, quietly, Minato's eyes fixed on the thief's face. Of all of the faces he'd never thought he'd ever see again after they left Chroma, that's...
Slowly, he lifts a hand to clutch at his chest, at his shirt where his heart is beating.]
I'm not dreaming... am I?
blushu
I get that a lot, [ he says, unable to help himself - but his gaze softens a little, and he shakes his head. ] It's been a long time, my friend.
[ and as cool as he remains, there's a definite tinge of emotion in his voice - relief, clear and evident. ]

But this... this is so unexpected, so much, and Minato just swallows--and then he sways forward to press his forehead to Lupin's shoulder.
Just... just give him a minute.
His voice is, at least, only a little wobbly.]
Do you ever feel like... you've had more than your fair share of luck...? [Minato keeps waiting for his luck to run out.
But it keeps coming back to him anyway.]

A side effect of being my friend, I'm afraid.
[ but a good one, in this case -- even if he doesn't understand at all. Is he losing his mind? Probably not, but he can't help but consider it, even as the weight of Minato's head against him seems to confirm that he's really there. Lupin is a quick thinker, and the strangeness of the situation is already beginning to set in. He flips through a quick reel of options on what to say next (how are you? what happened? i missed you? or maybe they should just get out of the street) but, really, all of them are equally valid, and he doesn't know where to begin. His arm shifts so that he can pat Minato's back, instead. ]
I thought you were dead. You're as slippery as I am. What -- what are you doing here? [ finally, he catches his tongue a little bit, but it's hard not to! he's still staring, trying desperately to puzzle out what's going on. ]

So, softly, all he can say is:]
I... was.
But now I'm here. [He drags in another shaky breath.] I don't know how, or why, or... or anything, really.
[Is it okay for him to know nothing? Is it okay for him to...be here?]
But... I'm here.
