[ to be perfectly honest, they were probably trespassing here. It's not like there were just big orchards of apple trees that grew in the wild, and considering that the army had hunkered down for today near a farming village, it didn't take a genius to guess that they were walking around in someone's property. Still, Henry didn't seem to care, and when Olivia had wanted to tag along with him to make sure he didn't get himself into trouble (a valid concern), he thought that was even better. ]
Don't worry! I used to do this all the time! These guys have so much land that they won't even notice we're here! [ he says cheerfully, almost skipping along through the planted field. Especially since the sun is setting - it's not like there would be anyone out here now. ]
As long as we don't stay out here for too long, I guess we'll be fine.
[As "fine" as Olivia can ever get. Even though the farmers gave the army the okay to stay around near the village, actual trespassing is probably not so smart to do when the sun is setting and the creatures of the night that live in the woods will start to arise. Really, Chrom wouldn't be too happy if a dancer and mage didn't appear ever again. Hey, they are armed and aware so they should be fine, right? Henry does know what he is doing, which is a little comforting, but of course, she just has to be tense. What else is new...]
Henry, what exactly are we doing out here again? Besides sneaking around...
[ he's used to her being nervous... this is why they go together so well!! she has too much anxiety and he doesn't have enough. ]
Getting apples, duh! Why else would we be here? [ like that explains anything. Without much ado, he suddenly hops up in the cleft of a nearby tree before pivoting around there to face her again. ] Besides, the sunset looks really pretty from here! I wanna watch it with you, Olivia. It's always noisy in the camp.
Oh! [Watching the sunset sounds nice, but Henry saying that he wants to watch it with her makes her heart skip a few beats more than usual. How sweet of him, even if he's... well, Henry.]
It does look pretty from here. [She does walk over to a nearby tree to check those apples from a branch close to snapping off. Clean and ripe, so perfect for a snack. She takes two for now, returning to Henry to offer him one.]
The camp is pretty noisy, yes, but it could get dangerous once the sun sets so let's be careful, okay?
Awww, no worries. Even if it gets dangerous, I'm sure we can handle it. We're great at killing stuff!
[ he's not so good at this romantic atmosphere thing, unfortunately, but it's easy to tell that he's happy, at least. While she's getting apples, he stays where he is, staring off at the horizon for a little bit; as she comes back, he hops back down, taking the apple from her with one hand while the other moves to the mantle of his cloak, fiddling with the hooks underneath it. ]
Yup, this oughta do... Thanks, Olivia, [ he adds after a moment. Without much explanation, he unlatches the cape - but it becomes apparent what he's doing in a moment when he takes each end of it in his hands, managing to hold onto the apple, too, and lays it down on the ground like a big rug. ] Presto! Instant blanket! I'm pretty sure that's what these big ol' capes are really for. Come on!
[ he quickly parks his butt right on it, patting the spot next to him. ]
[ It's well-known that Henry is a wizard; less well-known is the fact that, like all wizards, he enjoys his research and reading and engages in quite a bit of it when he's not off merrily killing whoever's unfortunate to cross metaphorical swords with him. After the war ended, there's been much less clashing of that kind, though. Good for some - good for most, actually. But Henry isn't so content to sit around and relax and enjoy the land's newfound peace. No, he's a restless soul, and he's never had a home in such comfortable terms.
The research and the rest: that's why he's travelled so far from Plegia now. Unlike before, he had money now, and the Exalt's (admittedlyuneasily-given) blessing to go where he pleased. He knew that this world was much bigger than the ground he'd walked in his life; his books told him as much. That's why he's out here on his lonesome, several boat-trips away from his fatherland, wandering a snowy wood that no longer had a name any of the closest locals could tell him.
But he read that it used to be called Serenes. And he's wandering through it with a certain tome clutched to his chest, eyeing the treetops with childlike curiosity as he does. ]
( It was a great forest once and since the time of the Radiant Hero, it had grown even greater. There was still a feeling to the wood. There was magic in the air and something even greater deep within. Like it's name, something else had been lost to them. Let it be known that despite the unknown, no one was ever endangered in the forest but none had ever stayed for very long. What was that feeling in the air? As if they had stepped into some sort of sacred place. Henry might even recognize something else in the air: Life, an old magic, and... was he being watched?
There don't appear to be any people in the woods. The only sound to be heard is the sound of the forest. The wind blows through the leaves, water runs from a spring, animals scurry about the forest floor, and birds take flight in the tree tops. But Henry is being watched.
It isn't unusual to see people out here. Children dare each other all of the time and every few years, a mage of the scholarly type comes to solve the mystery of the wood. What is unusual is to find a person so far out in the wood and on their own. Leanne had followed curiously in laguz form to see if the mage might get lost (it was, after all, winter). He certainly doesn't look lost but once Henry goes deep enough, she changes form so that she can speak. There is an old air to her but she looks only a few years older than she did during the time of the Radiant Hero. She's also had a century or two to master the modern tongue, )
[ it speaks of her grace that Henry didn't even realize she was nearby until she shifts and speaks to him. He'd happily chatted at the few animals still running about in the winter and smiled at the roosting birds he'd spotted in the spiny boughs of the trees, but somehow, this huge white bird, bigger than a man, had eluded his sight.
He can't be angry about that, though. When she appears before him, he's barely listening to what she's saying - instead, he's just staring, awed, at the feathery wings perched so naturally on her back. Oh. Oh. ]
Nya ha ha! I knew it! [ his words are interrupted by a pleased giggle, and he doesn't waste any time in bounding up to her, chattering as he goes. ] Everyone always said "nah, it's just a legend," but they were sooo wrong! Bird Taguel are real! This is awesome! What's your name?! I'm Henry!
