closed - HAPPINESS AU TIME
[ imagine a world where Aguri didn't die, and Korosensei didn't have his body taken over by tentacles, and, somehow, everything worked out just fine, and the two of them are now both teachers of Class 3-E. Somehow. The details aren't important, but the results are!
Of course, he's nothing more than an assistant teacher, seeing as he's a rookie teaching for the first time. But he has the best of mentors to learn from, and a pretty impressive treasure trove of knowledge, to boot. Just as she predicted, he took to teaching like a fish to water - and the change in his personality has been remarkable. Both the students and Aguri herself have really made him open up and become more human than he's probably ever been in his life. Even without the tentacles to help him this time.
It's a pleasant way of life he's never been able to enjoy until now; living simply, connecting with others, seeing and being seen. He'd spent his entire life believing that death was his only skill - now, he's discovering that he has many more that he'd merely been misusing. All of it is thanks to her. The students, too, in part, but her, especially. She was the one that reached out, pulled him from the darkness, and took him into her own life. He's grateful to her from the bottom of his heart, and he doubts that anything he does can ever properly display the depths of his gratitude to her.
But he tries. Every day, it's on his mind - or, perhaps, she's on his mind, according to the jeers of their students. Jeers he can easily laugh off, but which fluster him a little bit more than he expected them to, most likely because there's a sizeable grain of truth in them. If they knew he was going to take her out to lunch on their day off, he can only imagine what they'd be saying... Not that it's a date, of course. She's engaged. Not a date at all.
Nonetheless, he finds himself waiting at the train station for her with a bit of trepidation. That might just be because he's afraid of what she might be wearing today, though. (He has to be seen with her...) ]

... Maybe you've been spending too much time sitting at your desk and snacking, then? [ fortunately, his tried-and-true tactic of deflecting things with a smile is still pretty dependable. ] The students did tell me you were pretty pathetic in gym class.
[ looks like he's going to bear with it for a little while longer, yes. They spent long enough being separated by a slab of plexiglass; if she wants to hold his arm, so be it. He doesn't want to turn her away. ]

[ SHE'S SO RED. How dare you, class!! ]
no subject
Only for a second, though, because seeing her get all flustered lifts his spirits. Mr. God of Death actually chuckles a little bit. ]
Aah. You almost make this too easy. Anyway, who said anything about rhythm? You can't dance, either? My, my.
no subject
Dancing doesn't... come up often in our line of work, you realize...
[ STOP MAKING FUN OF HER. ]
no subject
Hmmmmm. It came up for me a few times. [ back when he was doing his 007-but-less-redeemable thing, of course. All smiles again, like nothing was wrong!! Teasing her makes him feel better, what a wonder. ] You know, they hold school dances in some countries, so maybe you should learn, sensei?

[ HE DOESN'T NEED ANOTHER REASON TO LAUGH AT HER. He's already got about sixteen, if she's counting correctly. ]
WANNA TIMESKIP AHEAD A LITTLE BIT AFTER THIS
That's no fun at all! You should be more open to getting involved in student activities, sensei. [ okay, maybe he is laughing at her... just a little. It's just too easy, and she's entertaining to watch.
Regardless, they're still walking, and he's got his eyes peeled for a convenient (read: moderately cheap) burger place to pick something up from. Once he spots one, he heads for it without hesitation, beckoning her along with him. ]
SLIGHT TIMESKIP AHOY
The flavor experience you get in just one bite is incredible!
[ Aguri, you're talking to a man who has dined all over the world... ]
hella
[ ... he says, while walking and eating fries at a rather alarming rate. So much for that. His big appetite wasn't something that the tentacles gave him, apparently. Once they picked up their food, he was quick to lead her off the beaten path - way off the beaten path, evidently. The train station's been left far behind, and they're walking along a watershed. Have been walking along it for about 20 minutes now. Maybe she can't be blamed for wanting to chow down on that burger. ]

[ ... Because he reminded her, and of course she'll lower it rather guiltily. Look, being a teacher burns a lot of calories... ]

[ he holds the box out to her as they start to go up a small hill. said box is already about 50% empty....... thanks shinigami-san ]

[ A little huffily, and perhaps Aguri shouldn't be half-pouting at a man whose kill count was likely higher than the amount of hideous clothes in her closet, but-- well, it's Aguri, she's not even thinking about something like that right now. But she will take a fry.
And then jog up the hill past him. ]

[ whatever non-excuse he was about to make is cut off when she suddenly decides to take off. Naturally, he's quick to follow after her, and without so much as dropping a french fry. One doesn't get that enormous kill count without some good agility. But she's right not to think about it. He's left that behind him; even if he hadn't, he could never turn a blade in her direction now. She's thoroughly defeated him.
She also beats him up that hill anyway. There's nothing up there - which is, presumably, exactly the point. It's a clear view out onto the bay of the area they're in, with the water blending away into the sea on one side of the horizon; some rather impressive houses are lined up along the coast on the other side, small from where they're standing, but undoubtedly not-so-small in person. It's not quite late enough yet for the sun to be setting, but the view then would have to be fantastic.
... Of course, sightseeing isn't why the God of Death knows about this spot. He sighs from behind her, scratching the back of his head with his free hand. ]
You spoiled my reveal, sensei. [ a beat; he's smiling anyway. ] How about here?
no subject
How could she be remotely grumpy in a moment like this? ]
I'd say... [ And she turns her head, to mirror his smile. ] It's the perfect spot for a picnic.
no subject
I'm glad you think so. Although I didn't bring a blanket for us. [ this was all rather impulsive of him - he wanted to go to lunch with her, sure, but as they walked, every option just didn't sound good enough. He wants to make an impression on her, to make things special for her sake. For some mysterious reason. (It's not mysterious at all, but he's kicking himself for giving in to his emotions instead of his conscience.)
Regardless of his lack of picnic blanket, he sits down on the grass. ]
I came here a long time ago. I was in Japan to assassinate the man who lived in that house, [ he explains coolly, pointing to one of those bay mansions as casually as one might point out an old friend's house. ] ... At the time, it just seemed like the perfect location to snipe from. I don't remember appreciating the view that much, but I guess it stuck out in my mind.
