It had been stressful enough trying to figure out how to situate Diva in his (very) humble abode, making sure she was comfortable, and then - then they were in a relationship, because the part of him that relished every second he spent with her won out over the part that wanted to run away from her really fast long ago. Then there were the children - out of nowhere, and weren't they different species, how did this happen?! He knew he shouldn't have listened to her--

So now he had four to take care of when he'd barely been able to take care of himself before on his meager paycheck, and he's working, working a lot. Very tired, very stressed, and more often than not, sleeping at his desk when he's around. This isn't exactly how he imagined his family life would begin... getting kidnapped to another dimension, falling in love with a vampire, and then having her accidentally bear his children, all before 30. And they're not even married. Who would have guessed.
Despite all the stress and surprise, though, he can't possibly be unhappy. As shocked as he was when he learned she was with child - with children, rather, he'd been thrilled, too, because... well, he didn't think it was possible. He hadn't known what the future could possibly hold for himself and Diva, other than inevitable tragedy, surely. Instead, there was a life for them. And he was infinitely grateful. Even if that life was difficult, it was beautiful, too. He loved their two adorable daughters more than anything, more than he thought he could love anything, and his strange, sad, sweet Diva just as much. Garry was probably the luckiest man in the whole world to have such an extraordinary woman at his side.
Today's one of his rare days off, and he's not hard to find in the little apartment, cooped up in his small studio space with an easel and a canvas. His dusty hair is pulled back into a ponytail, and he's painting blue roses - not one, but a full bouquet of them. ]

[ At the very least, at least Haven softened the blow from the transition between Diva's luxurious life before to the, well, less than luxurious one she lived now. It had been difficult early on, since how out of touch she was with how most people lived was highlighted with things such as marveling over what bills were in the first place, much less why Garry was so worried about paying them, or the fact that she couldn't spend more than a small fraction of what she had before on clothes. If she hadn't gotten pregnant, it would have caused more problems between them, because it was a concept that she really struggled to understand how Garry did, because she had lived a life where money was easy to come by and could be spent without worry.
But it was like a switch had flipped almost immediately after she had realized she was pregnant. Diva had no longer been concerned with her own selfish desires, and instead put all that energy into caring for her children to come. That too had been an interesting process, since a Chiropteran's development was markedly different from humans. When nine months had passed and friends were asking to see the babies, they had assumed that Garry and Diva was very private about their children, which was true, but it was because the two babies were still in their cocoons. It didn't stop Diva from caring for them as if they were already born and interacting with her, but it took another three months for them to "hatch," revealing two twin girls, one with red eyes and one with blue, just like their mother and aunt.
It had taken time for Diva to adjust to truly being a mother too, and she still struggled with it on occasion. It wasn't something that came as naturally as she had hoped, but through trial and error, as well as a lot of support from Garry, she had settled into it well enough for their two five year old girls to be quite loved and happy. And little hell monsters. Teething had been especially interesting...
So she's grateful for Garry having the day off too, because even if she was never lonely with her children around, she'd always wish that Garry could work less so that they could be together more. She's still a bit selfish, in that way. Garry will hear Diva coming down the short hallway, humming as she takes her time to pick up the toys littering the hallway and put them in the toybox at the end. Diva walks into Garry's studio with a smile, but it warms as she looks at his progress on the painting. ]
It's coming along really well, Garry. It's beautiful so far.
[ god the fucking cocoons. That sure was a thing that happened. Garry was probably terrified of his own awful demonspawn for a week or so, not to mention filled with a deep sense of dread upon recalling that he doesn't know what Diva actually looks like. Just what did he sleep with, exactly...? It's a good thing they hatched into cute, normal-looking babies (hatched? hatched?!)
When she enters the room, he stops almost mid-stroke, lifting his blue brush off the canvas and leaning back in his chair to look over at her. While he looked a bit older - expedited by all these shenanigans making him sprout a few extra gray hairs, no doubt - Diva was as petite and beautiful as ever. But lingering on such thoughts tended to make him sad, so he doesn't think about it now. Rather, he offers her a small, tired smile. ]
Mmm, you think? I hope everyone else sees it like you do... I was just doing it for fun, but I'll probably end up selling this one, too.

[ Diva nods to his question and walks closer so that she can loosely wrap her arms around his waist. If she was taller, she would rest her head on his shoulder, but as it is, she just nuzzles her head against his back and closes her eyes. It was a habit that she had picked up over the years, because she'd come to associate the sound of Garry's heartbeat with something secure and calm. ]
Well, anyone who says otherwise clearly doesn't have any taste at all. So I'm sure it will.
[ She smiles more and tilts her head so that she can kiss his back, a light sensation through his shirt. ]
Are you sure you don't want to rest, though? We can take a nap together while they're napping too. I'll wake up when they do.
[ he's used to her holding him like this by now, himself, and a tender feeling settles inside him. She could be a handful sometimes - well, a lot of the time, actually - but she was still so dear to him, even now, and he still feels his face heat up just a tad at the feeling of her lips on his back, shoulders rising. Garry is about as lame as ever... ]
Oh, uh... Well, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to take a break... I am pretty tired. Just let me put all of this away. I'll ruin my brushes if I don't clean them properly!
[ She nods understandingly as she draws away so that he can actually clean up without Diva clinging to him the whole time. ]
Mm, go ahead! I'll put a load of laundry while you do that. [ yeah at least they have a washer and dryer in their apartment THEY'RE NOT THAT POOR... ] I'll probably finish that before you do, so just meet me in bed.
[ She says it with a wry smile and tone, because she knows how that sounds, but no, not today. She really just wants to cuddle, but she can't help joking about it. ]
[ eesh. Garry just laughs it off, but she'll probably hear his heart briefly skip a beat anyway. He is weak... But when she lets go, he stands up from his stool, setting his brush down so that he can undo the straps on his smock. By smock, I mean a totally goofy pink apron. This is your life now, Diva. ]

She considers changing into pajamas, but it'll probably only be a short nap, if they go to sleep at all, so she just opts for the simpler comfort of just taking off her bra. Diva gets her legs under the covers, but otherwise sits up resting against the headboard with a small, happy little smile. ]
Oh -- stop it, you, [ he replies, playfully pushing her forehead (and possibly leaving some paint there, whoops.) ] Get out of here. I'll catch up with you in a minute.
[ waving her off, he'll set about cleaning off his brushes and putting away all of his supplies - oil painting means you need a lot of (smelly) junk set out, so it takes him a minute or two. Garry didn't finish quite as much of it as he would have liked today... But Diva did have a point. He didn't get to see them as much as he'd like - see her as much as he'd like. He deserved a break! Yes. He'll convince himself of that.
A few minutes later, he wanders in, too, pulling the band free from his ponytail and shaking his curly hair loose. His eye flicks over her with a shy sort of admiring as he approaches, and he seats himself rather heavily down next to her on the bed with a big sigh. ]
[ As soon as Garry sits down, she immediately drapes herself on him. Her arms wrap around his waist, and her head sits comfortably against his shoulder. She's still just as cool to the touch as ever, but it's something that Garry has surely gotten used to by now. After all, she makes up for that coolness with the warmth of her happy little smile and the affectionate way she has with him. ]

She sure did... [ he laughs a bit nervously - that mark is still healing. At least it was just his arm, so he could cover it up with long sleeves; it would be a little difficult to explain why he had a bite wound on his arm. Or maybe they'd just assume that Diva had given it to him. Which wasn't actually an unreasonable assumption, all things considered... He curls his arms around her affectionately, happy to get closer to her, and sighs against her hair. ] Well, at least they haven't caused any trouble yet at school...

[ yeah really... he's used to her not worrying as much about this stuff as she probably should. But it's to be expected - she wasn't normal, herself, so she doesn't understand how things are supposed to go. ]
Let's not jinx it, now. I'm glad that they're getting better, though. [ because if something did happen, he has no idea what he'd do. Garry doesn't exactly have enough money for them to suddenly pack their bags and move somewhere else. ] This is hard... I don't even know if I was ready to be a father, let alone raise two little chiropterans...
[ a tired sigh. sorry, waifu, he's exhausted and stressed all the time... ]
[ hearing that... does make him happy, because he knows this is a far cry from the life Diva lived before coming back. That, and he doubts himself quite a bit as far as being a dad goes. His expression softens to something fonder, and he rolls over onto his side a bit to face her more properly once she's leaned back, reaching out a hand to brush through some of her hair. ]
Thank you... I don't mean to complain. To tell you the truth... I'm really happy. I only wish that I had more time to love all of you as much as you deserve.

...Well, it's not too late, you know. It'd be hard for a while, but you could always be my Chevalier. Just take a day or two off, and we can do it. Then we could all be together. For... Well, not forever, but for a long time.

But how is he supposed to make that kind of choice? No matter what, it feels like he'll lose something, and it's terrifying to even think about. Garry's expression settles into something distant and troubled; he shakes his head. ]

The quickness may make it seem fake from anyone else, but for Diva, it's nothing but completely genuine. They're an affectionate couple (largely because of her), and her pleasure at being given that affection hasn't diminished at all over the years. ]

Amshel always said that there were problems with associating with humans that are just practical. I know he was wrong about the associating part, but the practical parts... They're kind of true. It's been fine so far, but eventually, people will notice that I look the same in a way that's strange. You'll age, but I won't, and eventually, our girls will stop aging too. That's practical.

By now, her strength has faded, since she no longer feeds on people directly, so it's not painful, but it's still tight. ] But more than that, I'd miss you, Garry. We all would.
